miss_k_reviews The most recent, longest, and most perplexing of the Plaintext trilogy was actually my introduction to these releases. As simply 'out there' as it is in both concept and execution, it makes for an interesting perspective on what music and art really are and how one set definition is not always definitive.

'Hollow Moon' is an album with only one track that is 40 minutes. This allows for the music to be both constricted by time and grants a freedom in creativity, reflection in a great jam.

about

Inspired by the sonic experiments of bands like YoHoWa 13, composer Steve Reich and albums such as Tangerine Dream’s ‘Alpha Centauri’, I wanted to create music that worked over a longer time format than the usual 3-5 minute song format and allowed the full exploration of an idea and its variations. I don't mind the mistakes if the feel is right - I like it when things get messy :)

I built up the track in small sections of guitar that I looped and then layered over a background of birdsong playing through a tape delay, until I could start to see ways of blending sections into sections, and start to add drums and then bass as long live takes on top, just jamming with myself in the recording. I found after playing for 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 40 minutes, that I no longer knew what I wanted or what i was doing, and things started to happen out of that which were much more satisfying than just playing what i had consciously thought of at the beginning. So, this record is a product of not knowing, of the real self coming through and letting the music write by instinct.
